Delete your WhatScent account
Request permanent deletion of your WhatScent account and the personal data associated with it.
This page explains how to delete your account on WhatScent — the scent identity app published by WhatScent. You can delete your account instantly from inside the app, or request deletion here if you no longer have the app installed.
Delete instantly in the app
The fastest way — your account and data are removed right away.
- 1Open the WhatScent app and go to your Profile.
- 2Tap the Settings icon, then open Account.
- 3Tap “Delete account”.
- 4Confirm your choice when prompted.
- 5Your account is deactivated immediately and permanently deleted.
Tip: before deleting, you can download a copy of your data from Settings → Account → Download my data.

No longer have the app? Submit your request below. For your security, we verify that the request comes from the account owner before anything is deleted.
What is deleted and what is kept
We follow data-minimization and GDPR principles. Here's exactly what happens to your data.
Permanently deleted
When your account is deleted, we permanently remove the personal data that identifies you, including:
- Your profile — name, username, bio, profile and cover photos, email and login credentials
- Your Stories and uploaded photos/videos
- Your journal entries (SOTD, reviews, notes) and the personal text within them
- Your shelves, library, bottles and wishlist
- Your comments, likes, saves and follows
- Your search history, notifications, device tokens and sessions
- Your AI assistant conversations and personalization profile
Kept in anonymized form
To preserve the integrity of community data that others rely on, a small amount of content may be retained without any link to you — fully anonymized so it can no longer be associated with you:
- Aggregate perfume ratings and votes that contribute to community averages
- Community contributions you made (e.g. perfume/brand suggestions, note and accord proposals), with your name removed
Anonymized data cannot be traced back to you and contains none of your personal information.
Timing & retention periods
- Self-service deletion in the app is immediate — your account is deactivated at once and personal data is removed.
- Web requests are completed within 30 days of verification (usually much sooner).
- Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on our normal rotation, within 90 days.
- We may retain limited records where required by law (e.g. fraud prevention, tax, or to keep a deleted email from being reused), for no longer than legally necessary.
