A little Inferno

Dante’s epic is in three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso, and it almost seems as if this journey is reflected in the unfolding of the scent itself. This opens like an old book, a burst of heady herbals blend with amber accords that evoke incense and the quiet heavy air of a room filled with OLD things, but in a nostalgic way, not musty at all. It is warm and the spices burst at that first spray, with cinnamon there-and-gone but for a whisper later on. Drydown reveals the full force of the amber solar accords, supported gently by light florals. Finally it is the wood and rum’s turn, blending on the skin into a well-smoked cocktail welcoming you to a deserved rest. Sillage is about arm’s length, intimate but prominent in that bubble. Wear time was about 6 hours, the last two being skin scent hours.

What was interesting to me about this perfume’s name, was that Dante’s Commedia was finished in 1321, but was first put into print in 1472. The house chose the time of the first 300 copies being made, instead of the actual epic’s completion, as their scent’s moniker. I can only ponder as to the symbolism. Perhaps the work’s spread seemed more important than the finishing?
