A few weeks back at the Rose Pacific launch at DS&Durga in Silverlake, I was talking to the salesperson and shared with them my old bottle of Poppy Rouge (sadly, the last of my discontinued DS&D collection). They were ecstatic to be able to try a scent they hadn’t heard of before from the house they work for. After they tried it, they let me try Ain’t That Sweet, though, they weren’t sure if that was going to be the name or not because nothing had been finalized but the fragrance itself.
It’s a beautiful, spicy gourmand with depth. It feels like baking in the kitchen for someone you’ve known forever and love deeply. Bourbon vanilla, condensed milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, dates, praline - it would be easy to imagine this would give you a toothache just smelling it, but as the name suggests, it’s more than that. The myrrh and lily help round it out and ground it before it goes that far. Though, it smells nothing like Memoirs of a Trespasser by Imaginary Authors, it’s a unique take on vanilla in a similar way. If you’re a fan of MoaT, I recommend checking this out.
