BR540 EDP vs Extrait

These are the last two samples I have to test out. I wanted to save them for a weekend day so I could do a proper comparison.

Upon first spray it smelled very familiar. I guess I've smelled this on a lot of other people before!

The Extrait opens up a lot sweeter and woodier, with the burnt sugar scent hitting me right away. The aromatic cedar is prominent as well. The jasmine lends an indistinct, light floral sweetness. It's quite airy and diffuse, especially for an Extrait. It goes a bit medicinal on me (oddly enough, it smells just like salted dried plums), but that may change over time. Might be the saffron, which is very concentrated and leathery sharp.

The EDP has the burnt sugar and cedarwood but toned down a lot, and it also has a lovely fresh citrusy note in it. It's more herbal (the sage is awesome) and a bit spa-like, with the sweet caramelized sugar in the background. The saffron is softer and more suede-like. It smells like a luxury hotel and is very enjoyable. Definitely leaning towards preferring the EDP so far.
