A gentleman with a bit of clay on his jacket

I bought this blind from Amazon several years ago. It has survived several culls of my collection, and every time I wear it I wonder why I don't wear it more often. It isn't loud, flashy, or fresh. It certainly isn't clean or aromatic. I do think it's similar to Hermès Terre d'Hermes EdT's vibe as a working man's fragrance, and that's why it appeals to me. They share a passing resemblance, but are more like cousins than siblings.

Terrae opens with a very astringent citrus note. It isn't the usual bergamot, lemon or orange but rather citron combined with calamansi. The latter plays a larger role right out of the atomizer, but steps back after a few minutes leaving the citron at the front.

As the citron slowly moves out, a powdery orris/iris moves in, along with a sharp vetiver. It's an interesting combination, and quite frankly feels rather refined while the overall feeling of the scent tends to lean towards earthiness. It's quite the juxtaposition, and far more interesting than most designer scents.

The base is strongly earthy, like clean soil, along with an angle from the styrax that leans mostly woody, but not an easily identifiable one like cedar, oak, or birch. This is the phase I enjoy most (I do enjoy all of them, to be clear) as it feels pretty unique.

It's one of those fragrances that's sort of love it or hate it; there's not a lot of middle ground here as it doesn't feel designed for mass appeal, which seems odd for a Morillas-led fragrance in my experience.

Performance is above average, with good projection for a few hours and a continually felt presence for about eight before it's basically a skin scent.

I enjoy it quite a bit, but I'm not sure it's one I'll immediately seek to replace when finished.
