A Coconut for the Wicked

"I'm a sexy coconut, I'm a sexy coconut", is what I catch myself saying whenever I wear Fan Your Flames. The coconut is far from beachy and playful, though - it's dark, toasted, and brooding.

This is the scent of debauchery on a tropical island. The sun has set, you're drunk on rum, casting coconut husks onto open flames. Oakmoss clings to the rocks around the campfire, and Cuban cigars are being smoked - their tobacco rich and moist, rather than dry and ashy.

There's a prominent sweetness here too - somewhere between the caramelised, molasses-like depth of rum and the soft nuttiness of tonka. It complements the darkness beautifully, amplifying the atmosphere of intoxicated revelry.

Nishane is one of my favourite houses, and Fan Your Flames encapsulates their characterful style perfectly. I'm not usually one for booziness, but rum and coconut is a match made in heaven, delivered here with a sweet smokiness that's dark, decadent, and utterly delightful.
