Take the 405 to the 101 to the 210 to the 710 to the 105 to the 5

Gucci No. 3? There was a 1 and 2? I never have read up on this fragrance and I happened upon some for a very good price! I knew a small amount about it— floral, greenish, aromatic, and legendary status..?

Top: green aromatics, herbaceous, and gentle florals enrich the motherly embrace of this fragrance. Coriander, fresh or dried is quite obvious. One of my favorite herbaceous/spicy top notes. There is no “hug me” accord to this but there is a certain level of appropriate dowdy-ness that lends itself to a comforting smell. Green floral chypres are easy to find, but one that masterfully avoids being too bitter, too mossy, or too muddled is rare to find.

Heart: a dancing floral with a green buzzing counterpoint. L’air du Temps comes to mind but if it were spiced up a bit— meet in the middle with Miss Dior. It had a ruggedness but also a polish to it that I enjoy. Narcissus and Iris pair well to give depth and a typical bouquet of white florals are framed with the chypre structure, which fails to disappoint if you’re a fan.

Base: moss, patchouli, musk. Not much to talk about with this portion but it still has some floral qualities to the base. I feel this has some really well crafted bones.

René Laruelle made an incredible point with a simple sentence, “synthetics are the bones of fragrance, naturals the flesh.” I believe Gucci No. 3 exemplifies this well. I can parse out how it has been structured and enjoy that this was made in a very intellectual way. Cerebral fragrance for sure.
