A Love That Couldn’t Last: PDM Herod

I’ve owned a bottle of PDM Herod for quite a while now. And I can truly say this is my favorite scent of all time (I.e. look at my bio) It’s one of my favorite warm cozy scents.

Right out of the bottle you get hit with a dry blast of cinnamon pepper, but doesn’t stay harsh for too long.

Within a few minutes that killer sweet tobacco note opens up. It’s got this rich, almost cherry pipe, tobacco vibe going on, mixed with a warm vanilla and a bit of incense in the background. I think that almost fruit like cherry smell comes from the Osmanthus.

What I like about the scent is it isn’t overly loud or obnoxious. It is surprisingly smooth and refined. If I had to anchor it to something familiar, I would think Tom Ford tobacco vanille but it’s way less aggressive, smoother, and much easier to wear without choking the room. tobacco vanilla has more of a Christmas vibe, while the fruitier aspects of this differentiate it enough

Now I’ve said it’s my favorite scent but I’m docking the overall fragrance 1 star, because the real drawback is the projection settles down pretty quickly into a close to the skin scent. For the price, it absolutely should have better projection and sillage. I’m typically one that believes fragrances DO NOT need to exaggerate projection (not a beast mode guy), but I always end up having to layer Herod with my dupe attar to get some longevity out of it.

But if you want a solid date night or cold-weather sent, it’s absolutely beautiful. Definitely a must try if you like sweet tobacco and vanilla setups.
