Gorgeous Iris
GuerlainIris Pallida Extrait 64.428 ratingsThis is a gorgeous iris perfume (probably one of the best irises in my crazy-about-iris-collection). But it isn’t for casual iris fans: the powdery blast one gets right out the gate makes this an iris perfume not everyone will like. It took me a few test wears before I could discern the iris but when I did, I could smell rooty, vegetal and even a bit green in the iris facets. The almond gave it a rounded edge and added some subtle sweetness. As it dries it gets almost creamy from the sandalwood and a hint of suede keeps it cool toned. The drydown is where the magic happens. Perfect iris with almond, musk and sandalwood. Doesn’t get much better than this but I did have to train my nose to appreciate it. I’ve heard it called “old lady” and if that’s what I have to look forward to smelling like as is age, I’ll take it. 😂
