First things first, I must say a huge thank you to this perfume and the fragrance community. Thanks to them I came to a realisation that some ingredient used to make leather notes, probably quinoline, is something I should avoid. And Irish Leather is very heavy on that unfortunate ingredient.

As a result, this particular perfume became a stinky fiasco on my skin. As I first smelled it on my skin, I thought it was some joke about people who burn rubbish in their backyard, as it had a strong waft of some bitter herb and burned plastics. With time it became so much worse, it smelled exactly as that time my headphones caught fire due to a faulty battery. I wasn't the only one smelling that, as I was asked whether something was on fire quite a few time during the day. That was about enough for it become a scrubber for me.

Some time after a friend randomly grabbed my sample and sprayed it on herself before I could warn her. And what do you know? On her it smelled like lush meadows and rich leather. So that's how it can be for other people. Try before you buy would be my advice on this one.

    I thought I hated leather as a note and avoided it at all costs. Until I discovered it was quinoline. It’s the same with Tonka bean. I learnt there’s different types of synthetic couramin. There’s one my nose hates, haven’t gotten to the bottom of what one, but it can turn really bitter to my nose.

      I was so stumped over this one, as I used to wear Black Perfecto religiously in my 20s, and it had a leather note, so I thought an all leather perfume would work for me... Absolute betrayal that!

      Good for you! I've had it, too, as a sample with a purchase, so no money lost, and the sample was successfully rehomed.

    That's something so so common 😭 some notes simply develop beautifully in other people and ourselves stink. That happens to me with certain jasmines which develop in a shrieking almost rotten flower smell and that's all on our pH and skin chemistry. Getting to know which ingredients or notes are either good or bad on our serves is actually part of this whole trip into the scent world

    Totally agree. I associate quinoline with those gas station “new car” air fresheners. There are good leathers. Then there are these leathers, synthetic rubbery mush.

    One woman’s burning trash is another’s lush meadows, perfumes are literally so interesting. Thanks for the quinoline warning!
