Beckoning You Closer…

As I was checking out at Scent Bar, they threw a bunch of samples into my bag. The first I tried was Korrigan by Lubin. This is my first experience with Lubin, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The sample packaging is a natural colored stock, embossed with a copper/gold leaf. The print nerd in me is impressed, which may be subconsciously why I picked it first. Upon opening the folded paper, I find the sample; a fleshy, peachy opaque bottle with a black sprayer. The presentation is worth discussing, which is why I’m doing it.

I wanted to go in with as little information as possible, so I didn’t read anything about it before spraying a test strip. Immediately, I loved it. My first impression was how well-crafted this fragrance is. Leathery and boozy, but floral with a hint of spice… But not like any I’ve tried before; it’s almost fresh at first.

I look at the notes: leather, whisky, ambrette, saffron, cognac, juniper berry. All things I love smelling! THEN! I read what Korrigan is inspired by and if I didn’t already love it, this would have swayed me - little mythical creatures that are believed to inhabit the Brittany countryside that sneak out at night to pick juniper berries and distill alcohol in dark caves. Very up my alley.

On my skin, the drydown is saffron and leather, with a hint of that floral note. It’s warm and sits near the surface like the Korrigans are beckoning you… Closer and closer towards the edge of their cave. Are they benevolent? Malevolent? Ambivalent? I have no idea, but I’m interested in finding out!
