I took myself on a sniffari this afternoon
Les IndemodablesOranger Sirocco3.86 ratingsOranger Sirocco: This is not a freshly squeezed orange, but one encased in sweet spices and floral amber. I'm imagining quintessential '50s decor when smelling this - nothing dusty, but it has a retro feel. This lessens as it dries, and sweetens further, but remains an ambery candied orange. Syrupy, but not bad. 6/10
Carnal Flower: Not your usual hyper-feminine white floral. It's creamy and beachy, but more fresh and green than sweet and sultry. There's a rich warmth here, but actually smells quite savoury. It's subtle, but whatever animalics are in here remind me of roast lamb. I loathe tuberose, but for those who like it and don't want anything sweet and juvenile, this would work well. 4/10
French Lover: A bitter burst of fresh, green aromatics. It smells like a verdant herb garden, but clean and airy rather than pungent and soily. It settles down into the scent of an elegant, sexy, well-groomed man. Clean, herbal, woody and incensey - masculine, but kind and softly spoken. Based on scent alone, I'm toying with an 8.5, but the performance is horrendous. 7.5/10
Ambre Supreme: Vintage amber chypre vibes. There's a sparkly, red-toned animalic purr here that reminds me of Zoologist Civet. Similarly to Civet, there's a 'pissy quality' beneath the amber. This never really goes away, but softens, sweetens, and feels more well integrated as it dries. Still, a near-scrubber for me. 3/10
Amunae: Bvlgari's answer to a "your-skin-but-better" scent: clean incense, bright aldehydes, and a crisp, pear-like sweetness. Peppery woods and white florals come along, and it ends up smelling like a dusky shade of lilac. A saltier, woodsier Ambrette 9 that lasts. Hard to hate, but pretty dull. 6/10
Cobalt 7: Bright, herbaceous clary sage and sharp, tart blackcurrant. At first, it feels like a generic male locker room, but then the incense arrives. It's dry, woody and a little smoky, in a transparent, crystalline way. In sea of "blue" fragrances, this feels quite distinguished. 7/10
