An afternoon of sampling

Other than Lilyphéa, I only tried them on card, so my word is far from gospel. I won't be giving any numerical ratings, but here are some initial impressions after around 4 hours:

Mud: Dry, nutty cacao with a milky, plummy sweetness. The elemi smells fantastic here - a dash of something ecclesiastical to keep things from smelling too delicious. More of an earthy-sweet incense fragrance than anything particularly chocolatey.

Fig Porn: Damp, earthy, juicy figs, luscious red roses, and a sweet, vanilla-amber finish. A sexy smell indeed, but definitely on the feminine side, reminding me of YSL Lavallière. Would make a great date-night fragrance - it has a real sultry, boudoir feel.

Dirty Rice: An earthy bowl of fragrant rice, dry, powdery florals, and an almond-like sweetness. The sandalwood-vetiver base smells quite familiar, reminding me of any number of woodsy, musky, lactonic fragrances.

Crystal Saffron Extrait: Just to remind me how much I dislike this scent profile. I don't think I'd tried the Extrait before, but it just smells like a richer, more resinous version of the EDP: hyper-synthetic, plasticky saffron with an abrasive, burnt-sugar sweetness. Like the EDP, the drydown is actually quite nice - it reminds me of BR540 - but it's a long journey to get there.

Lilyphéa: This is so well-liked, but it's not for me at all. I suppose it's pretty, delicate, and aquatic in the sense of a serene lily pond in a tranquil garden, but it just reminds me of floral hand soap - the sharp, translucent kind, not the sweet, lathery stuff. It does sweeten up, but this is still a miss for me, and perhaps the only Diptyque I've ever disliked.
