There’s something cold and haunting about L'Orpheline - like watching your bedroom door slowly creak open at 3 a.m. in the middle of winter, when you know you’re the only one home.
With the only two listed notes being incense and musk, it’s no surprise that this feels minimal and elusive. It’s clean and ethereal, but there’s an aloof austerity to it - something that feels more isolating and lonely than fresh or uplifting.
The incense is nothing like the rich, ecclesiastical kind you might imagine Vatican monks swinging through cathedral halls. Nor does it have the earthy spice of a headshop. This one is icy and distant, like catching a faint whiff of a Himalayan temple from the other side of the mountain.
The musk, bleached and pale, brings to mind the powdery snow beneath your feet. You’re hiking alone, contemplating something sorrowful, yet there’s a strange peace in your solitude.
This is a melancholy worn by someone with a loving heart and quiet strength - someone who knows they’ll get through this hardship and emerge stronger.
