The results of my Sunday sniffathon

As always, they were all tested on skin and given the whole day to develop.

Cozy Cat: A sweet, sparkly fruitiness set against smooth, glassy woods. Could it be raspberry and translucent cedar? I haven’t checked the notes, but it feels like an ambered berry, its juiciness transformed into pink glass and set within a clean, almost salty pale wood. Cozy Cat is a great name - it dries into a berry-sweet, warm, suede-ish kitty musk. It’s giving me flashbacks to CH Men, which I owned almost two decades ago: another sweet suede/ozonic violet/pale woods number, and perhaps for that reason, it comes across a bit juvenile. 6.5/10

Torino 24: Freshly cut mango that opens bright and tropical, but almost immediately becomes lactonic and juicy, as if blended with orange-flavoured ice cream into a milkshake. White and yellow florals bloom around the shake, with specks of green herbaceousness floating within. It’s a fruity, playful, tropical-lotion sort of scent that I imagine much more readily on a young woman’s skin. Even then, I still wouldn’t love it. 6.25/10

Neroli Outrenoir: I’ve tried this before, but it’s been a while. A spicy-sweet blast of fresh neroli and peppery greens. For some reason, the vanillic benzoin immediately came through today. It takes on the dryness of tea and becomes the beauty I remember from the past: a clean, resinous, spicy-herbaceous tea that smells lightly smoked and deeply roasted, never veering into soapy-floral territory. Effortlessly gorgeous - top 3 from L’Art for me. 8.75/10

Metal Lavender: The lavender is sharp and realistic, like rubbing the purple buds between your fingers, given a clean, charcoal-grey, shiny-flint quality. It turns a tad hazy as it dries, the lavender losing some of its oomph. Some would call this synthetic, and I suppose it is, but I personally really like the freshly-ironed, metallic muskiness of cashmeran. It smells clean, crisp and decisive - an easy wear for men, but perhaps lacking a little excitement. 7.25/10
