Tried Ormonde Jayne for the first time today

They were all tested on skin and left for ~6 hours before I showered.

Patchouli d'Atlas: A dry, woody faux-patchouli with a saffronic, dried-fruit spice. It's neither sweet nor musty, but rich and earthy, with a pleasantly timeworn feel. It begins to take on a herbal bitterness, the Akigalawood bogeyman rears his ugly head, and things finish smoky and astringent. Akigalawood, saffron and bitter smoke - three of my least favourite smells. I really wanted to scrub this off. Nasty stuff. 2/10

Nawab of Oudh: Green, bitter, citrusy, floral - it has a beautifully fresh, sweet aromatic sparkle, with no particular note jumping out. Quick to dry down and flatten significantly, but what remains is great. Citrusy woods (including patchouli to my nose, albeit not listed), sweet green herbs and fresh rosy florals dancing around something that reminds me of warm, mineralic sand. An easy-to-wear, incredibly versatile, classy-gentleman profile. Brings to mind Maison Rebatchi Feu Patchouli. Lovely. 8.25/10

Montabaco: A dry and leathery, yet spicy and sparkly tobacco. A distant cousin of Bvlgari Falkar - dark, leathery sharpness atop clean, sleek freshness. Instead of woody oud, this is green tobacco: slightly sweeter, with a cured quality and a leafiness that doesn't go full mint, but has a cooling, camphorous, ozonic brightness. Certainly a tobacco that would work in the heat. Nice, but I'd prefer it as a body wash. 7/10

Ormonde Man: Not sure about this opening. I'm getting a spicy, burning-rubber sort of scent, with a dark, viscous undercurrent that's bringing to mind damp, fermenting wood (the 'black hemlock', perhaps?) A nutty sandalwood enters and attempts to smooth things over, but it doesn't shake away the stale-spiced, burnt-rubber impression. Really unpleasant, but slightly more tolerable than Patchouli d'Atlas. 2.5/10

Still plenty to try from Ormonde Jayne - I have my eye on Xian, Levant and Formosa next.

Nawab of Oudh is one of my go-to work fragrances! Agreed with your description for sure. I've found that with experience, the pimento note really starts to stand out in an amazing way! This sweet, spicy, slightly vegetal pepper mixed in with the rose and musk is just magical to me. Definitely a staple! I've also really enjoyed Arabesque, Montabaco Rio, and a few other things by them as well. I seemed to be pretty noseblind to Ormonde Man, so it was a miss for me. Montobacco Intensivo was really nice, but on my skin, it smells like straight up hand soap for some reason! I was really bummed when I tried Bijou Zafran after the way Kaleidoscope Scent talked about it. It sounds incredible, but to my nose, it was straight up sickly sweet, syrup. Going to have to try it again the next time I'm in NY!

I remember you saying, yeah! Being noseblind to Ormonde Man is no bad thing if you ask me! Lots of positive reviews though, so it must really work for some people. I see the handsoap connection! Definitely has a bit of an aftershave lotion sort of feeling. Nice one for those recommendations!

I hated it 🤣 The opening was ok, but the drydown was awful to me. I talk about it more in the caption, along with the other 3 I've tried from the house.
