BDK ParfumsPas Ce Soir Extrait4.054 ratingsRight away, I can tell this is something I like, but wouldn't wear. A crisp, juicy, fruity pear. Sweet, but not overly so, and smelling much more realistic than pear usually does in perfume. After a few minutes, the sweetness becomes rich and nectarous - more peach than pear - supported by luscious white florals, and intensifying to a point that might be too much for me.
It doesn't smell like Naxos, and there's no tobacco listed, but it reads that way to me: a warm, cured, ambery tobacco leaf. It could be the jasmine or cashmeran giving this impression, but either way, it has a rich sumptuousness that smells almost mouth-watering.
After some time, it becomes clear that patchouli is the driving force behind all the richness. Nothing musty or basement-like, but a deep, pulsating earthiness that remains sweet, fruity, and palatable.
What remains on the skin after a few hours is, unfortunately, much less impressive. The sweet fruitiness dries out, becomes a little musky, and the patchouli turns soapy. Most people say this leans feminine, and I tend to agree, but the heavy sweetness wouldn't be an easy wear for either gender. The longer it dries, the more unisex it feels, but the more it resembles any number of musky fruitchoulis.
I prefer this to Blue Talisman - it replaces the peppery, synthetic Akigalawood base (which, interestingly, is derived from patchouli) with something richer, deeper, and more natural-smelling, but they cover very similar ground. 7.8/10
