… Passage d’Enfer is to Episcopal Eucharist. This is my personal opinion. Not that we don’t swing the thurible around from time to time; it’s just a bit more restrained. Buttoned up. And in the summer, wearing striped seersucker. I know, L’Artisan is a French company and thus more Catholic than anything else. But have you seen a WASP’s guest bathroom? The L’Artisan aesthetic would be right at home next to the French milled intaglio soaps that you’re expected to know not to touch. As for PdE, clean, sophisticated, inoffensive, slightly austere yet with a latent sensuality humming just under the surface—that’s got Episcopalian all over it. I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t say the Gloria or the prayer of humble access today. Thankfully, I sprayed my liturgical formalism on before I left home.

    I love the original - how does the extreme version compare?

      To my nose, and it’s been a year or more since I’ve smelled l’original, l’extrême is deeper and has better longevity. Keep in mind that this one does not project, but the small aura it creates is exquisite. I am more aware of the lily in this one than l’original, and frankincense is a tad more prominent, but very much cleaned up and balanced by the sandalwood.

      I've been in many WASP bathrooms (raised Christian, was friends with their kids growing up and have had many as clients for pet sitting, lol); my ex (a grandchild of WASP-adjacent folx, though they weren't churchgoers as far as I knew) of 9 years' grandma's guest bathroom had MULTIPLE of those soaps😭🤣your review TRULY hit home for me! I WILL be sampling this thanks to it (wasn't even on my radar before, so thx!)
