A spicy date

This is the second Atelier des Ors perfume I was able to sample. I picked Rouge Sarây as I was intrigued by the whole "perfume built around a date" concept. And, to be honest, I feel like this is a brilliant success having that in mind.

The best part of this fragrance to me is the drydown. Gaiac wood carries the whole composition, making a perfect resinous rich woody background with the help of sandalwood. It feels almost leathery and sticky, reminiscent of the date looks. The date itself is mixed with the juicy plum and green patchouli, making it slightly more reminiscent of a smoked prune. I must also admit the unique use of jasmine, that represents both overwhelming sweetness and slight freshness. The use of cinnamon is also unique, giving the whole composition a heady spicy feeling with a hint of refreshing zing.

The perfume itself might look cloying or heavy judging from the description, but it's actually the opposite. This isn't a "let the whole room smell me" sort of fragrance, the sillage is very subdued. The drydown especially is very close to the skin and not overwhelming at all. But it stays resolutely for a day or so, not requiring much of any refreshing.

Overall, I'm very, very impressed with this fragrance. Truly, a unique and well-rounded masterpiece. This is not something I would personally wear, but something I would definitely recommend to anyone who wishes for a spicy fruity scent that can be wearable at any occasion.
