A Freshly Pressed Shirt from a Beekeeping Dry Cleaner

Sartorial is Penhaligon's take on the classic gentleman's barbershop scent, yet rather than presenting a cooling, aromatic lavender, here we have a warm, comforting variety.

This is at least partially achieved with a beeswax note - it’s not at all sweet, but ambered and waxy, draping the lavender and earthy greens in a honied glow. Simultaneously, there’s a certain metallic twang, like the scent of steam hissing from a hot iron.

Altogether, it forms an image in my mind of an outdoor dry cleaner tucked beneath a canopy of oakmoss-draped trees. The air's abuzz with the hum of bees from a nearby apiary, their waxy combs coated in honey. Steam curls from a metal press as lavender-spritzed shirts are carefully ironed on a cardamom-infused workbench by a man in a leather apron. An amber softness lingers over it all, as if the late afternoon sun has melted into the fabric itself.

It reminds me of the late drydown of Tom Ford's Beau de Jour, elements of Rogue Parfumery's Bon Monsieur, and a few other foamy barbershop scents, but the addition of that hot iron and beeswax allows Sartorial to stand on its own
