Selkie announces itself with an extremely powerful animalic opening that reminds me of a beach at low tide. Funky and honestly kind of repulsive. As it settles, I start to pick up on the pine. What was once pungent settles into a cozy animalic cocoon. This is not a "perfumey" interpretation of wet fur and sea brine; it is impressively realistic.
To me, this is a lonely, rocky beach on a cold and misty day. You sit on the rocks by the water, unsure if your clothes are damp from the light rain or the ocean spray. Sparse coniferous trees slowly sway in the distance. You shiver under a heavy wool blanket.
Another image it conjures: a solitary lighthouse keeper looks out longingly across the expanse of the sea, wishing they weren't quite so alone.
