A Hidden Gem in a Garishly Gold Bottle

Swiss Arabian Shaghaf Oud EDP is a great addition to my collection and an absolute powerhouse when paired with the CPO of the same name.

While it's not at all expensive, and the bottle may come across to some as a bit gaudy, that garishly gold bottle contains a hidden gem of a fragrance. I'm absolutely in love with the Shaghaf Oud CPO, so naturally I needed to see what the EDP had to offer.

I'll admit, the opening of the EDP is a little lacking. There's an initial harshness from the alcohol, accompanied by a somewhat initial almost synthetic praline and subtle oud. Thankfully, that doesn't last long. It quickly dissipates and develops into a beautifully balanced fragrance of warm saffron, more mouthwatering praline, hints of rose, and a subtle oud that brings with it the mystique of the Middle East. Give it an hour and, to my nose, it smells considerably more expensive and refined than its price would ever suggest.

I've never considered myself a fan of oud fragrances, but much like the Shaghaf Oud CPO that I adore, the oud here is handled in a way that I find extremely approachable. It adds depth and character without overwhelming the fragrance. For someone curious about oud and wanting to start dabbling with the note without diving straight into the deep end, I think Shaghaf Oud is a great place to begin with minimal cost.

And if you already own the CPO, try layering the two. Together, they're a powerhouse.
