Guerlain Shalimar EdP
This is a scent that my sister has been looking for but the original one. When my sister was just starting out in the workforce my Mom had given her a little bottle and my sister ADORED it! So she bought this one hoping it would be the same. Sadly it was not.
She let me try it. It is not for me. I love my florals, fruity & fresh scents but I am willing to try a scent unless it smells like a heavily sweet gourmand.
This was not good on me. At all. It is very smoky and incense-y on me. It is what you would expect an old church to smell like. Not the modern churches with all the white interiors but rather an older church with all the wood and stained glass windows - think St. Patrick's in NYC.
I could even see someone who has a library at home that smokes cigars as they sit in their club chairs enjoying a brandy after dinner. That is another image that this scent evokes in my mind.
Considering all the notes that are in this fragrance, for me, this is pretty linear. It stays smoky the whole time and I don't get any of the other notes. Based on my experience, this is a heavy scent ideal for the colder months. I can also see this being cloying and suffocating. Not something you can overspray.
While this is categorized as a women's fragrance I could definitely see it working for both men and women especially with how it works with my pH. In my opinion, this is NOT a safe blind buy at all.
If you enjoy heavy, smoky fragrances that have staying power then you may enjoy this one.
