Amber jumpscare

I wanted to love Abandoned Mansion so much, I almost did. The description seemed like exactly the thing I would enjoy: wet mossy scent with a hint of fruit. But somehow, it's not my cup of tea, after all.

It has a perfect opening with a strong smoky paper note slowly becoming more and more stale. Quince enters this ensemble beautifully, changing the whole direction into a smoky wet fruit. This somehow reminded me of my childhood and uzvar, not the fancy modern kind with spices, but the simple one served in cantines: just smoked fruit boiled with water. I was enjoying the whole thing until the drydown, when a screechy amber ploughed through the eerie scenery. Why is it there? What does it do? Answer to that hangs in the air along with the odd ambery presence.

The scent itself clings close-ish to the skin it stays on for half a day at least. I couldn't take it for longer than that, as the amber note was bothering me quite a lot. The scent itself is wonderful and unique otherwise, and I hope it finds appreciation it deserves. Sadly, not with me.
