Un Jardin en Méditerranée genuinely feels like being transported somewhere else. The image that immediately comes to mind is relaxing in the shade of a ripe fig tree along the Mediterranean coast, surrounded by dry earth, warm wood and aromatic greenery with a breeze moving through the branches.

The fig is what really grabs me. It has this beautiful balance between the juicy sweetness of ripe fig fruit and the drier, dustier character of the tree itself. It never becomes syrupy or overly fruity. Instead, the citrus, fig leaf, woods and aromatic greenery make the whole fragrance feel alive and remarkably natural. There’s an earthy dryness underneath everything that gives the brighter fruit some texture and keeps it grounded.

What impresses me most is how Hermès manages to make it feel so light and airy without making it feel weak. Nothing is dense or heavy, yet the fragrance has a very noticeable presence around you. It wears more like an atmosphere than a traditional perfume. Fresh air carrying the scent of ripe fruit, leaves, wood and sun-warmed earth.

It’s elegant without feeling dressed up, refreshing without turning into another generic fresh fragrance, and fruity without becoming sweet. There’s something beautifully relaxed and effortless about it.

My first instinct after smelling it was apparently to test the limits of that airiness by bathing myself in 10+ sprays. No regrets.
