Yves Saint LaurentMuse4.353 ratingsI love iris! I love it in all its many facets from vegetal to powdery, to dry. But perhaps my favorite facet of iris is rooty. To me, rooty orris perfumes smell earthy and a bit doughy. They are dense and have a “chewy” quality to them. YSL Muse takes a rooty iris and sets it amongst ambery accords which pull the overall perfume to sweet territory. But, before the perfume goes too sweet, the addition of the fantasy accord “ink” is used. That ink comes across as cool toned. A little metallic. It’s an interesting dichotomy: warm and cool together. The iris note here (just the iris) smells similar to the iris used in my Unicorn Iris, Velours by YSL and Vanille des Afriques by Ormonde Jayne. (I’m not saying those smell like Muse but each shares an iris presentation that seems familiar).
