I first heard about Bat from their Art and Olfaction Award win in 2016 and I was immediately intrigued. Not only did they create a fragrance around one of my favorite animals, but they leaned into their ecological importance rather than their gothic mythology! How exciting!

And then I smelled this weird, wild, earthy, fruity fragrance. Super different from anything I wore at the time, but I needed a bottle of it. I don’t wear it often, but I love it as an art piece I admire from time to time.

I’m thinking about Bat this morning as I wake up in the mountains in a bed facing a massive window pointing at the rising sun. When the light was just beginning to peek over the peaks, I watched bats catching their last meal before the sun came up - truly magical.

    I also love bats! And, the 60s Batman TV series was a staple in my childhood. Had to add that for some reason. Anyway, I’m thinking of getting a Zoo sample set for my wife as a Halloween present and you just helped push me in that direction!

    What a fab shot! We only have 9 species of bats in Ireland and they are all tiny! I love seeing them at dusk as they whizz past you. I have never whiffed this perfume, is it meant to smell like an Australian Fruit Bat? They are stinky creatures 🥴🤣

      The tiny ones are so cute, but honestly, I’m biased because I love them all, haha. I haven’t experienced the Australian fruit bat, but that’s funny! The original is a bit different from the newer reformulation, but the original smells like damp earth/cave/fruits and flowers that bats pollinate. I love it.

    This is such a creative frag! Do you own the original? Have you smelled both the old and new?

      I agree! I own the original and have smelled the new one, but I still prefer the original. I might add the new one to my collection just to have both, though.

    Have you tried "The Original Night Flyer" by Olympic Orchids? How does it compare to Zoologist. I know the whole controversy and I have a decant on the way.
