I Had to Flee the Room

What started out as amusement at the fact that my fiance has two fragrances both named Black Phillip by two different companies has now turned into mild horror (speaking of horror, absolutely LOVED The VVitch, such a good movie).

I'm exaggerating a touch, but this fragrance was wildly unpleasant for me. I sniffed it in the bottle and physically recoiled, my eyes actually watered. I didn't want to judge it from a bottle sniff though, because I've learned that a fragrance can smell horrible in the bottle but fantastic on paper and skin. I dabbed it onto the test strip, did the obligatory flapping to help it dry down, and midway through flapping I already regretted my decision.

This is *strong*, dare I say oppressive. I can smell it across the room, it really just takes your breath away in a bad way. The dust and hay just assault me immediately. I kept going back to make sure I had a full and proper read of it, but I wound up coughing my way through half of it. It's a dusty, abandoned barn, old worn wood, dust coated hay, and a hint of soured butter somewhere in the background.

I can see this being used if someone is doing a full experience in maybe a professional haunted house or wanted to create a very intense olfactory experience. As far as actually being able to wear it in public, that's just not something this fragrance is meant for.

I do want to add a note, this isn't any sort of negativity toward the perfumer or the brand; I have a BUNCH of Andromeda's Curse. This is very true to what it's advertised as, this is just my personal experience and taste.
