I love sandalwood fragrances. The material itself is so elevating and comforting, and from my experience nothing quite hits like the real deal mysore sandalwood. While this may not have the same concentration as something like Samsara, it frames it in the context of delicious spices and ambrette that defy everything I know and have learned. A top 5 fragrance on first wear, a true rarity.

    Sandalwood (mysore specifically) had always been odd to me because of when I got into fragrance after Australian sandalwood replaced the over harvested Mysore and way before they allowed harvesting to start TWENTY YEARS LATER?????????? Or close to that! I have smelled mysore in current fragrance but I’m sorry the old stuff just hits different— different crop and older sandalwood is more awesome lol. Chanel should have been immune to the ban and they were for several years due to owning their own fields. They ran out quickly lol.

      Samsara and Egoiste are the opposite sides of a coin: HYPERFLORAL versus FRUITYSPICY but both with a superdose of mysore that bonds them fundamentally. I wore Egoïste so much in high school (2010 bottle) that when I got the vintage I didn’t really give it enough attention because I was afraid of “wasting it.” I feel much differently now obviously— let’s get half the bottle emptied and then I’ll hold onto the rest!

      I’ve heard modern Bois de Illes is still quite decent in the sandalwood department. But yeah and that carnation adding that spicy quality is to die for. Excited to try more :) thank you once again friend
