I took a deep dive into Bvlgari's Le Gemme Collection

Gyan (skin): I was expecting this to be a rich, full-bodied patchouli, sweetened with lush white florals and given a subtle citrusy freshness, but it's more like a "white-shirt" scent to me - clean citrus, airy jasmine, mineralic incense, and an elusive, catch-me-if-you-can patchouli - no deep earthiness here. It's 'nice', and totally inoffensive, but plays far too safe for my liking. 7/10

Orom (skin): This is a gorgeous vanilla - rich, rounded and balsamic; sweet in a resinous way, nothing gourmand or ice-cream-like. I don't detect much oud, not the real stuff anyway, but there's a deep, woody warmth to the vanilla that makes it feel regal and timeless. I'm reminded of Babycat, Babylon and Vanilla Oud, but this is better. Such a cuddly, alluring scent. Beautiful. 9/10

Tygar (skin): Zesty grapefruit and freshly grated ginger upon a musky ambroxan base. It has that "thing" that Aventus, Bleu de Chanel, many LVs etc. have: the freshly showered, modern-man, mass-appealing warmth. He smells clean and capable, but it's not my style of perfumery. 6.5/10

Tygar Extrait (skin): Warmer, sweeter and more ambery than the EDP. Less fresh, but it's still the grapefruit and ginger that are most prominent - here sealed in a deep orange amber rather than fizzing from the skin. I prefer it in the opening, but the base has a dry, suede-like earthiness that doesn't do it for me. 6/10

Falkar (paper): Woody, smoky oud. Has a whiff of horse saddle, but it soon passes. Warm spices dust the edges bringing a slight medicinal twang. I might be going crazy, but has Belletrud slipped a little of that clean Imagination base into here? Smells like it on paper. Needs a skin test. TBD

Onekh (paper): Opens like the dark wooden interior of an East Asian show home. I've never been, but that's where it took me. Develops similarly to Falkar, but not as dry, without that kiss of LV-style ambroxan, and with a honeyed-leather, resinous sweetness. Has potential, but also needs to go on skin. TBD

      Orom was the clear favourite, but I do love a resinous vanilla. Will go back tomorrow for skin samples of the rest. Have you tried any of them?

      Never had the chance, but in have the eye on these since long time, good you are on them so I can get the real feedback! Vanilla is difficult note for me, but your review is so stunning that I have to try now lol

      Orom is definitely worth a sniff! If you've smelt the ones I mentioned that will give you a really good idea how it smells, but it's been elevated here. I don't feel like I need it - such a rich vanilla is also tricky for me to wear - but I'd love a candle that smells like this.

    Awesome write-up! Orom is also my favorite. Not sure about in Taipei, but it's EXTREMELY easy to find the 30ml bottles given to Emirates first class passengers on mercari for like ¥5500ish (like $35USD), which feels almost criminally cheap. 😂 I'm a huge fan of Falkar, but haven't picked it up because I'm a bit afraid that I'll almost never be able to actually wear it 🤷🏼‍♂️

      No such luck on Taiwan's Shopee for such ludicrously cheap prices - I don't even see decants available for any of the Le Gemme perfumes. As gorgeous as it smells, I'd prefer to be snuggled up next to it than wear it myself. Rarely do I want to wear such a strong vanilla, and when I do, Ani to the rescue 😁 Certainly got a whiff of stank when Falkar was first sprayed, but it settled suspiciously quickly on paper - let's see how it does on skin, probably tomorrow haha.

      Not at all! I could totally imagine a woman wearing it. She would have to be confident though - not because the scent profile feels masculine, but because it's a big, bold scent that could easily wear her rather than the other way around. Cuddling in front of a fireplace with a lady who has this radiating from her... sign me up immediately!

      I woke up this morning (after a good scrub in the shower last night and 13 hours after spraying) and the oudy base is what remains. Now this part does read as masculine to me, but I don't think it would ever turn into that during a normal wear - scrubs and snores removed more of the vanillic richness than time on skin ordinarily would. But even then, nothing animalic or skanky, just a regal, ancient woodiness.

    I struggled to smell the patchouli on Gyan too at first. Now it's much better, not sure if my nose adapted to it, or it's a maceration thing. I find it to be a great daily/signature scent. I've only also tried tygar and falkar from this collection. Tygar is right up my alley: to me it's fresh, classy and masculine. Falkar, on the other hand, I find challenging. Even more challenging than Interlude Man by Amouage. It's just very dry and leathery and I couldn't pull it off during summer nights, so just waiting for colder weather to give it a full wear.

      I can see how it would work really well as a daily driver - albeit a very pricey one! I think I'm just more used to dense, chocolatey patchoulis (Richwood, Psychédélique, Pardon) so Gyan felt a little faint. Will share my thoughts on Falkar and a few others a little later.
