Perfect For Me

Admittedly, this won’t be for everyone. It’s earthy and woody and fungal …and I absolutely love it.

When I saw the images and videos promoting the fragrance before it was released, I was intrigued and a little bit worried it wouldn’t be able to live up to the expectations I had already set for it. Still, I couldn’t wait to try it.

Last weekend, I visited Scent Bar in Hollywood on a mission. Usually, I just kind of freestyle when I visit. What’s calling me? What am I gravitating towards? This time was different. I wanted to try Vetiver by Comme des Garçons, I wanted to revisit the Dries Van Noten collection, I wanted to figure out which incense by CdG to add to my collection, check out Fig Lemonade by French Cowboy, and I needed to try Micodelirio.

It opens woody and earthy, an accord of soft, moist soil and mushrooms. In the middle of the busy storefront in Hollywood, I was transported back to rural Pennsylvania with one of my closest friends, hunting for morels at a long forgotten apple orchard. Then, I was in my old studio, listening to a video of John Cage discussing his collaborations with his partner, Merce Cunningham, while foraging. I was sold.

Micodelirio is surprisingly linear and accessible despite its more avant-garde inspirations and execution. Again, this won’t be for everyone, but it’s perfect for me.
