Without question, I needed a favourite amongst favourites today

My legs are absolute toast after yesterday's half marathon - walking down stairs hasn't felt this challenging since I was 2ft tall. So this calls for something which feels like therapy for my olfactory.

Pardon is a top 3 perfume of all time for me: dank patchouli that becomes chocolatey, spicy oud that turns smoky, all danced around by delicate florals and warm spices. The opening can seem alarming, but give it 2 hours, maybe 3, and you'll fall in love - as will everyone around you. Best believe they'll smell it, too. Pardon performs outstandingly well once it warms up: expect an easy 8 hours of noticeable yet alluring sillage, remaining on skin well beyond the 12-hour mark.

I said I wouldn't wear this until the weather dropped below 18°C. It's 28°C today, but bugger it - who am I to refuse the longings of the soul? Nasomatto atomisers allow for more controlled sprays, so with half a spray to each collarbone and one to my forearm, we're good to go, even in the heat.

    Call me crazy, but I love this feeling. Satisfying that I pushed myself to that place. Congrats on the half marathon! On the fragrance front, I know that this isn’t for me and, yet, your description makes me want to try again!

      If you're crazy, then so I am, it's one of the best feelings ever! Knowing we've pushed ourselves way beyond what we thought our limit was. Pardon certainly opens with a snarl! Did you give it the whole day on skin?

      I don’t really recall but my son has the rest of the decant which means I really liked it but it was too masculine on my skin.

      Mmm, I'm not usually one for assigning gender to scents, but I can't really picture Pardon on a woman. They don't smell similar, but for the chocolately patchouli experience I feel Coromandel works beautifully on a woman's skin.

      I just thought, perhaps yesterday's Black Afgano run wear subconsciously inspired Pardon today...stranger things have happened. It was lush today! Was wishing I went just a tad heavier with the sprays though.

    It’s top 3 for me also and some days it’s #1. It’s beautiful. I didn’t try it until a couple years ago but it’s somehow nostalgic for me. Like I’ve always known that smell somehow haha idk how Gaultieri did it. Genius work here. Gun to my head and I HAD to choose a favorite, it would be this I think.

      I have the exact same experience as you, except I was able to eventually isolate the nostalgia to having once owned L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme Eau Extreme almost two decades before discovering Pardon. Was a real "oh shit, yes, that's it!" moment. Pardon is much richer, dense, sexier, heavier on the natural patchouli etc, but the resemblance was uncanny enough for me to be reminded of a fragrance I once loved, but completely forgot owning.

      Ya know now I wonder if someone I knew in my teens wore that in the early 2000s and that’s where I know it from. Fragrance was a big part of my life growing up. My uncle, grandparents, and dad were all into them so maybe one of them had it when it came out and I smelled it when I was 15-16 and now it just brings me back. I’m excited for fall to kick in here so I can wear it more often again.

      That could be what it is! It's so hard to find bottles of Eau Extreme now, but if you wanted to test the theory, even the drydown L'Instant De Homme EDP bares a noticeable resemblance to Pardon, and that one hasn't been discontinued. Maybe the penny would drop if you had a sniff.
