Cannot decide if I love this or not!

I am an early days rose reformer, but usually with modern rose presentations (Headspace Rose, Byredo Rose of No Man's Land, Memo Sherwood, Diptyque Eau Rose, Van Cleef and Arpels Rose Rouge, and before it's massive ubiquity and countless clones have put me off, Delina - for example). As a result, this impulsive blind buy (despite never even trying the OG Shalimar) lives in a land of indecision for me:

Some days, it feels TOO... 'Johnson's baby powder' - cloying traditional powdery rose that gets in the back of my throat and feels more old school, traditional, powder puffs on the dressing table and Turkish delight rose and not really my style.

Other days, it lies beautifully on my skin - kissing it with a light, sweet, juicy rose mist enveloped in a subtle vanilla. Those days, it feels classic but relevant and much more up my street.

I feel like I'm being gaslit by it. And also, I have a 10ml of Rose Cherie - which do I prefer?

(But also, the bottle is GLORIOUS.)

I'll probably keep it either way as I can't seem to stop coming back to it, and it has immense layering potential...

What be your thinks? Have you tried it? Are you a Shalimar Stan?

    A RVH and current EDRR.. we need to expand our perfume support group lol. I’m a Shalimar stan, but the truth is, I never wear it anymore (my OH hates it) so I only have a mini now in my collection. I love Shalimar L’essence, a brighter, lighter more sparkling version that feels more modern and have a FB (my OH still isn’t a fan, but he just has to suck it up buttercup). The Shalimar rose flanker is one I have yet to try. I do love a good rose, but very much have to be in the mood for it and I get that rose forward scents aren’t for everyone. My number 1 rose is Penhaligon’s Liquid Love.. joint second are sexy, spicy darker roses; Cavort (Fragrance du Bois) and Patchouli Ardent (Guerlain). Whilst I appreciate roses like POAL and their stunning composition, I’ve not a fan of dusty roses on my skin.

      That's exactly it! Dusty roses are the question mark still. But who knows what my skin will do to them in a few years time?! So good that you've managed to sneak your Shalimar l'essence in there!

    I do love rose scents - all of them! I was never a huge Shalimar fan though. I bought L’Essence and I really loved it and I decided to pick this one up. This is such a beautiful powdery and romantic rose. I go into my cabinet just to sniff her on the days I don’t wear her. I bought a backup bottle because I think she will be lovely to pass on to my daughter. I also bought the Jasmine and Iris flankers but I think she is the loveliest, followed by the Jasmine.

      I LOVE jasmine so I'm going to look out for that one too. What a lovely idea to gift one to your daughter one day! Such a beautiful, classic, luxurious looking bottle too

    I’m also a Shalimar fan. Do keep trying with it. I’m actually doing the same. I have it and the jasmine. At first when I bought the Shalimar Millesime Jasmine I was disappointed. I love the og and to me the Jasmine one smelled too strongly of creamy vanilla and I wasn’t getting Jasmine at all. I tried it again after a few months and wow! The jasmine was bright and shining. To my nose it was the original just with a more pronounced gorgeous jasmine, which is my favorite floral note. I fell in love and maybe like it even more than the OG Shalimar. All that to say I kind of feel disappointed with the Rose Millesime but hope after a while I’ll fall in love with it. I also have to say I think it’s very different from Shalimar extrait and edp.

      This is exactly it! I can't stop going back to smell it so there's definitely something there (and I'm super tempted to blind buy a Millésime Jasmin tbh! I love Jasmin!)

    As a Shalimar fan I absolutely love this one even though it feels to me a bit further away than the other flankers. I also regret not buying the jasmine one a few months ago that I saw it at a store in Rome as it was another one I loved
