I received this yesterday evening and I was very excited but at the same time very nervous after reading some of the previous reviews on it. I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I was hoping for a very Light Violet and creamy/nutty Sesame forward fragrance and it more or less did turn out that way. I sat with this perfume all day. On initial spray, I swear this perfume was Mancera’s Fig Me Up! They could be literally sister perfumes. I know they have none of the same notes but they are so similar I had to spray them side by side and compare and they were amazingly close with Mancera Fig Me Up being a tad more green and fresh and DVN VV a little more nutty and warm, but just barely. I did grab the bottle of Insolence to see if I could detect any hints of that Violet in there and I really couldn’t as Insolence’s violet is so very sweet, pure and powdery, even at its faintness it retains it’s cleanest form (Guerlain is such a genius perfumer!) The violet in VV is there, but it’s light and it’s not vintage and powdery, it is more botanical and flowerlike, it’s cool-natural and modern. Why they named it Violet I have no idea? They should have gone with Sesame as it leans more nutty and buttery. I actually think this would layer amazingly with Neutrogena’s sesame body oil. I do get a strong amber note in this fragrance and I think it’s beautiful. As I said before, I was starting to get nervous about my blind buy of this perfume based on many of the previous reviews. This was my very first DVN purchase and I did get a few other samples with it. I haven’t had a chance to test those out yet, but I look forward to it! As for this one, it was far from disappointing or boring to my nose. It was indeed intriguing with a beautiful strong opening , an unexpected and unconventional use of modern violet, a dreamy amber backdrop that carried the fragrance all the way up to where the perfect balance of sweet and creamy sesame come together on dry down. I wouldn’t recommend this as a blind buy for a beginner. You really have to like strong openers with this one! I love what they did with it and it’s a keeper for sure for me!
