Brown Girl Jane - Carousel

Is it just me, or does anyone have a hard time telling all the BGJ perfume names apart (they all start with C???)?

Anyways, Carousel is a super fun and unique perfume. I don't think I've smelled anything like this. It has the same vanilla, sandalwood and fluffy musk base as all their other perfumes, plus prominent burnt sugar and fresh apple notes. I'm actually impressed with how they got the toastiness of the sugar and the juiciness of the apple to come through. Blackcurrant and cherry is definitely also there, as well as the leather in the background. As for the florals, I can mostly smell the lily of the valley, which gives some freshness. This is such a weird mix of notes... But I like it...??? 😂 I'm pleasantly confused! This one is more on the sugary sweet side, though it is still light enough to be wearable in warm weather (if you take care not to overspray).

This also hit me with the 💫surprise scent association from real life💫 which is... My mom's spinach soup... Which sounds bad, but no, it's a good thing. I think it's the burnt sugar plus a little green/freshness from the fruit and lily of the valley, and some earthiness from the leather giving freshly cooked spinach with that vegetal sweetness. I hope that didn't turn you all off this one because I actually think this could be a travel size contender 👏🌟

I will be back to add my thoughts on longevity, but so far the projection is much stronger than Carnivale. I also had to scrub it off my left arm... But ONLY because it revealed a hidden scratch that got very red and angry at being sprayed with alcohol. Don't worry, it's not that kind of scrubber.

It's a great scent overall. I'm not doing it any justice with my goofy review 😂 It's a bit of a sexier, date/evening type perfume. I feel like this is not as easily likeable as its sisters in the discovery set (though not challenging by any means), but it's interesting, fun, and made my brain spin a little harder so it gets an 8.5/10 from me.
