A tale of two smellies

When I first smelled this in 2010 i didn’t react much to it compared to Une Rose and Bois d’Orage (French Lover). Noir Epices was even more tempting so I got a travel trio of those because I was 17 and paid $8/hr. Malle and niche was out of reach— commercial was not really ok, so I usually was at the estate sales, vintage shops, and ESPECIALLY the weird perfume stores that used to exist but now have been basterdized. Those stores sold vintage Guerlain, Caron, and others for below market price by 20% or more of the ORIGINAL STICKER PRICE.

I pine for those jubilant days of an excess of choices unexplored and unknown.

2008: Matte Cap First Formula (mentally unwell people like me do believe there was a 2003 and 2005 change but like shut up! This is a weird dusty cinnamon thing. I don’t understand it but I like it. Not quite of a ravaging musk like Muscs Koublai Kahn by Serge Lutens, instead a dry spicy oriental. Not much to say about this to be frank. But I’m not frank, I’m @guerlinaughty. Close to Opium but billed as a musk fragrance, but they only got halfway there

2013: 2nd formula pre-Lauder (2/3/4th formulation if you drink the clozapine kool aid). This is my preferred bottle of the two. I have about 50mL of both which is cool so I just layer them. This is a nice dirty musk— NOT animalic musk, but dirty dirty synthetic musks that I have played with before like Costausol and Givescone. There are white musks but not any “laundry musks” so not B&B Linen B.S. this is a fatty prime rib of a fragrance and I’ve gotten a LOT of compliments from strangers
