I was pregnant with our first child in the early 80s. I had constant morning sickness—all day, every day. Poison perfume was new at that time, and I asked for a bottle of it for Christmas. I got it and was delighted with the scent…until I had an episode of morning sickness while wearing my new perfume. I couldn’t stand to wear it at all after that-and to. this. day. the smell of it makes me nauseous.

I just finished the chapter on smells being attached to memory. Wow, is it true!

    Lots of people have their own nuance to their perfume hobbie; collecting certain house, collecting kitsch bottles, collecting vintage etc. The psychology of scent association fascinates me, why it lends to us forming different impressions on scents based on on our own life experiences (negative and positive). I love scent memories, it’s so cool how the brain works and a scent can transport you to a time and place. I’m glad you enjoyed that learning module and could connect with it. It’s so interesting that a person can live a scent yet it can trigger nausea because of scent association. There are scents I love but can’t ever wear because they trigger full on PTSD panic attacks. There are scents I can spray that immediately feel like a hug from my daddy when I miss him. Are there any scents your children associate with you?
