Taking a break from my samples for a classic

The next sample in line sounds really pretty (Versace Dylan Blush Pink) but lists tonka as a note. The last two samples were heavy with tonka despite it not being in the notes list (coumarin was in the ingredients but that doesn't always mean it's strong enough for a reaction) and I'm not looking for nausea and sinus pressure three days in a row.

So I pulled out my Angel, The Bad Formulation EDP (eau de L'Oreal), patiently waiting for the pungent opening to dry way way down o my god who thought it was a good idea to put THIS MUCH CASSIS into such a beautiful fluffy scent, meet me outside, *I just want to talk.*

Okay, maybe I'm not so patient after all. But I definitely look forward to the fluffy base notes coming through.

      I swear it was a decision made by someone who hates patchouli! They must be among the people who smell patchouli as extra pungent and amped it up with cassis because they thought we all want that stank. But patchouli to me is dry green fluffy texture, and the added cassis is not welcome here. Which is why they finally fixed it but my bottle is, regretfully, from The Cassis Era, and that makes me a little grumpy.

    Thanks for the laugh. This is the fragrance that made me think I did not like patchouli. For the longest time that is what I thought. Then I started really exploring and realized that it was the dreaded cassis. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

      I've seen so many comments from people who thought the same thing! You're not alone. I was anosmic to patchouli for a year or more (either COVID or chronic sinus inflammation) and still smelled the strong pungent opening. Angel Fantasm has a prominent patchouli without the cassis and it's beautiful! It's a super creamy patchouli. Bvlgari Splendida Patchouli is another nice one, it's a clean powdery candied patchouli. Patchouli is one of my absolute favorite notes, it adds so much texture and depth!

      I really enjoy patchouli. Just took me some time to figure that out! I swore off all angel after my start. But thanks for the info on fantasm — added to list!
