Which perfume was your biggest letdown?

Which one had hype but deserved none of it when you smelled it? For me it's Xerjoff 40 knots. A lot of people kept praising it as a beautiful and very elegant/classy marine scent. Sounds like something I would love. To me it smelled salty/briny in the air, while on skin it smelled like vintage powdery scent for grandmas. I don't see anything "classy" about it. Kind of a weird scent and I haven't given it a single wearing yet.

    I don't think I ever got the marine scent from 40 knots. It's woody amber that becomes powdery. Some say it smells like baby wipes but I never got that.

    Probably Bois Imperial. I saw it was so praised, and it wasn’t awful to me but it just smelled so plastic-y and bad to me, definitely not something I would like to wear. In general Essential Parfums was so disappointing to me, I try looking for my favorite notes in them and they just smelled bad

    I don't think there's much hype surrounding it but Guerlain Rose Barbare looked great to me on paper. Absolutely hated it and couldn't detect any rose. I was very disappointed.

    40 Knots is one of my favourites and it always felt marine to me. Salty coastal air up top, salty woody decking in the mid and leathery, oceanic musks in the base, alongside floral, warm spicy, ambered elements that pop in and out at different stages. What do you get from it?

      I haven't really given it a long wear. Sprayed it on shirt then had to change it for some reason, then I just never reached out for it again

    Oud Satin Mood can’t explain it. Beautiful scent but it always feels like something is missing when I wear it.

    For me, they all are somewhat of a let down. I mean the scent is amazing but performance is trash, here's looking at you Roja Aoud. The performance is great but there was something about in the scent itself i didnt care for Xerjoff Alexandria II falls into this category for me along with Amouage Gold Man, Clive Christian Masculine #1 and Roja's Diagelev. Im sure some love them but for me the are a just insidious florals that cause a headache.

    Gosh, I have several. These were cases of samples or decants-to-bottles that I either grew to hate, developed headaches over or allergies: 1)Marfa; 2) Dama Bianca; 3)Mojave Ghost (sneezes); 4)Blanche Bette (gags); 5) Silky Woods (started to smell like sore throat spray); 6)Pale Blue Eyes…but the biggest let down has to be Mojave Ghost. That one breaks my heart

    Molecule 01 because I am anosmic to iso e super so I could never understand the hype (literally can't smell anything). Also, Guerlain Tabac Sahara (notes sounded like a dream but when I tested it I was shocked how much I didn't like it).
