Suprised by my "Top Notes" since starting this app!

I have a pretty strong understanding of what I enjoy in fragrances and what I generally don't enjoy. I can safely say that my favorite notes are oud, incense, frankinsence, resins, sandalwood, cedar, mate, dark fruits, and musk. I enjoy citrus notes, but they are never in my "top" list. I think of myself as somewhat indifferent to patchouli, leaning toward the direction of not really liking it.

However, in categorizing all of my bottles, patchouli and bergamot are my most prevalant notes! Bergamot doesn't suprise me as it's in a ridiculously large amount of fragrances. Patchouli was a shock, though. I know it's used as a background element for depth in a lot, but I had no idea that so much of my wardrobe featured it.

Does anyone else have a note that appears in their top that shocked them?

    I think for me it was Sandalwood, I often tend to find it too creamy and thought that I was “staying away” from scents listing this note. After checking my collection I realized it s one of the top notes 🤣🤣🤣

      I totally understand what you mean!! 😂 I feel like sandalwood can vary so much from like a creamy, slightly vanilic sort of thing, to pickles, to sawdust 😂 If used right, I absolutely love it, though!!

    Yep. Musk for me, but like you with patchouli, musk is a very common base note. 🤷🏻‍♀️. You are going to very likely have musk, patchouli, amber or some other wood, vanilla in your fragrance

    I too have a lot of bergamot this month and it moved my scent exploration from Dark to Fresh. Hmmmm, could the 98 percent humidity everyday have anything to do with that 🤣

      Hahaha that certainly makes sense! 😂 Interestingly, even though bergamot is my most common note, I'm still solidly in the "dark" category. Definitely been wearing more fresh stuff lately, but I'm a dark fragrance guy through and through 😂

    I’ve never been the “I hate patchouli” type, but I always fancied myself more of an oud fan… Turns out I like patchouli a lot more than I thought! Haha

      My thoughts exactly! I would say I've been neutral to patchouli, with strong patchoulis kind of not working for me (despite Psychédelique, which is arguably the strongest patchouli 😂). I was shocked to see on our comparisons that bergamot isn't in your top 10 most common notes! I didn't know that was possible 🤣

    Interestingly, I don’t have bergamot or any other citrus in my top notes, so that might be a bit more indicative of a preferred style than you would think 🤔 In my notes, jasmine surprised me a bit. Even though I have a few jasmine perfumes that I enjoy, I didn’t think I had so many where it is a supporting note

      That's really interesting! Bergamot is the only citrus in my top, so that does make sense. Going through our comparisons show that we are both quite close in the same directions across the board and have a lot of overlap, but our top 3 most common notes are completely different! What are some of your top bottles?

    I just had to check and I was surprised too! The fruity was no surprise but animalistic was my 2nd highest note with the fragrances I've loaded and worn since I started. I'm curious how it shifts as I add more.
