How much do we spend for longevity?

I love Mind Games scents. From the first day I encountered them at Dillards, I was in love especially with Double Attack. The same is true with Initio. I can easily list the names of the fragrances from each house I love. However, I cannot justify the price tag (more than $300) when the longevity is less than one hour. Do you find the same to be true? Should I move on and abandon my love for these scents? Part of the passion for collecting is the bottles. The dupes have much better longevity but it's not the same 😞

    Honestly, people need to stop with the longevity shtick. Scents are made to serve certain purposes, and not all of them are made to last all day. Also nose blindness adds a layer on top of it. It’s that simple.

      I agree, I don't need ALL day, that makes no sense to me. I re-apply after a couple of hours regardless. Can I get at least an hour with these?

    I think people are hyper focused on longevity. Some fragrances are not chemically made to last as long as others. Also, the weather, skin moisture, and body chemistry play a role in a fragrance's longevity. There are ways to improve longevity by using a moisturizer or wearing the fragrance in the appropriate weather conditions. The scent is the main reason I will buy a fragrance, personally. On the same token, it's really up to you what you are willing to pay for a fragrance. If you don't want to pay full price for a bottle, maybe you could look into getting a decant.

    My order of priorities is the smell itself>bottle>longevity, projection & sillage>price. I like it to stick around but it can’t be TOO tenacious or loud. If it would require multiple reapplications for a work day and it’s pricey, that’s probably a no unless I’m completely blown away by the scent.

    I don't mind a shorter lived scent because I don't mind reapplying and if i'm going out I like a different scent for the evening. Though I do appreciate the longer lasting ones when I feel lazy!

    My rules are.. it has to give me absolute eyes roll to the back of my head love to purchase a FB. Longevity is irrelevant for me, if I love the scent, I love it. That being said, I’m at the stage where I prefer to get travels if I can or decants.

      Travels help me decide to buy a full bottle. I can test longevity and wear it how I normally would. I went through one travel size in a day with no detectable trace of it at the end. Sadly, I won't purchase a full bottle.

      Wow! I think I’m kinda lucky as I have a sensitive nose, so longevity has never been an issue for me.

    I, too, am not much bothered by longevity unless it is gone so fast and is so expensive. I am a bit surprised by your experience though as my Initios last a long time, especially musk therapy and atomic rose.
