Spritz Spritz Pass, Episode 1: Purse Fragrances, A Mission

For some time now, I have been on a mission to find the perfect fragrance to carry in my purse for any occasion I forget to put something on before I leave.
I’ve had a few come & go- first was Nest’s Vanilla Bourbon, but it smells too much like my cousin’s wedding now (when I wore it every day), so that’s out. Then there as JHAG’s Juliette but after my boyfriend liked it so much I ended up buying a second bottle to leave at his house before it slowly became a fragrance that’s just for the boyfriend (which has since been panned, I’ll bring what remains of the bottle I keep at home when I remember). Most recently was Versace’s Dylan Purple but I don’t feel she’s socially versatile enough (not to mention the lid is about as effective as a Kleenex on an oil spill), so the search continues. I find the perfect purse fragrance generally have to follow these 5 rules
1. Socially versatility. Something I can get away with wearing at a nice dinner, a movie theatre, an office, the TTC, or a concert- basically has to suit the large range of places I could be
2. No avant-garde scent profiles (if the top, heart, & base notes are ones like metallic, gun powder, & blood- maybe rethink, unless everyone you interact with is cool), I have this as a general rule for the same reason that I wouldn’t pitch Anima (2019) for a movie night with people I barely know. Sorry guys, I’m choosing My Cousin Vinny (1992) as a safe bet.
3. Good packaging. Like I said, Dylan Purple pissed me off so hard with its weak ass lid that doesn’t even do its job I made this an essential requirement.
4. Smaller quantity. It’s supposed to just be a little bit, like a few millilitres. You don’t want to be stuck carrying a full sized bottle of Vanilla Skin all day lol. Mine are usually between 7.5-10ml. If it doesn’t come in a small atomizer it’s not an option!
5. Something that won’t make me cringe when someone asks me what I’m wearing. I have custom mixed fragrances for just me, but whenever someone inquiries when I’m wearing it, I feel like there’s no way in hell that person is going to believe me, they’re just gonna think I’m being secretive for no reason! Those fragrances are for spaces where that is the norm only. Also no silly names. No, I’m not telling you I’m wearing vanilla sex or anything from a brand called boy smells.
Maybe strict or even nonsensical criteria to some but hey, that’s what I need from a purse fragrance. Here’s some things that I don’t necessarily care about as much.
1. Longevity. It’ll be on me anyway, respraying at some point in the day isn’t a big deal.
2. What seasons it suits better. I think there are definitely some seasons some fragrances are best suited for, but I’ll wear them outside of those seasons if I like them enough, but I may spray or less to adjust for that.
3. Matching to mood. These are for in a pinch- if I cared enough to match my mood I would have remembered to spray
4. Something permanent. I don’t need a fragrance that I’m gonna have in my purse for the rest of my life, perpetually panning & repurchasing. I just need a solid one for this era of my life, whatever this “era” is. I’m a busy girl & my preferences will change. I just need a good one for right now.
