Remember free samples?

In the mid 2000's I remember well going to the mall and returning home with dozens of samples and perfume wasn't an exception. When you'd buy any fragrance, they'd give up to 2 or 3 free samples, that was the norm and now it's a novelty. Why do retailers and brands stopped giving various free samples along with your purchases? The percentage of ppl that buy a scent are super likely to buy another, so why be scroogey on that? 🥲

    Yep. I can tell you why it stopped: 1. Employee abuse. Employees would steal this way or bribe customers or hoard and steal the supplies from other coworkers 2. Customers began scamming, repeatedly coming in to buy when they only wanted samples to the point of getting a full bottle, like every day they would apply before work and get a sample 3. COVID

      1 and 2 were major profitability and contract issues with companies because it made us not have testers so we had to mark out live product or not have a tester and the brand reps would be like wtd
