Amouage, anyone?

Wowzers, everybody, I feel Memoir Man is barely mentioned, but I had a couple of sprays today and what an unbelievably gorgeous scent this is. Totally caught me off guard.

There’s no cacao in the notes, but the opening is a realistic mint-chocolate combo that smells like a sexy, smoky, Amouage-style After Eight (a mint cream encased in dark chocolate).

There’s little to no sweetness to begin with, but after a while it turns deep, dark and resinous, bringing out the best kind of sweetness alongside the vibrant mint that remains surprisingly noticeable. And if this cake needed any more icing - it’s been 9 hours since I sprayed it, I’ve swum for 45 minutes, showered twice, and I can still smell it faintly on my arm. Ludicrous longevity.

I’ve tried my fair share of Amouage - albeit the ones marketed towards women still need to be explored more thoroughly - but Memoir Man has immediately shot up into my top 3, alongside Overture Man and Jubilation XXV.

I wonder if there are any other Amouage that have flown under my radar? It matters not if they’re geared towards men or women, I’d love to hear what your favourites are!

    I love Amouage. It's my favourite house, by far. I haven't tried Memoir Man yet, but Woman is pretty witchy and wonderful.

      I'd recommend Bracken, too, if you can find it and if you don't mind slightly bitter, earthy notes.

      Is that one of the discontinued ones? Quite a distinguishable bottle, but I don't remember seeing it around.

    Interlude black iris, Reflection/Reflection 45, Outlands, Remain, Lustre and Beach hut man but I will say that last one is not for everyone very earthy and minty

      What's Lustre like to you? I haven't tried that one. Black Iris didn't work for me - smoked herbs, powdery iris and sweet leather... eek, was one of the few I really disliked. The Reflection DNA would take my 4th spot, with a preference for Reflection Man. Beach Hut Man - gorgeous. I enjoyed it more and more as it dried down and the greenary was darkened and joined by semi-sweet resins. Outlands, just ok for me, a bit sweet and syrupy, but I'd love smelling it on others. Remain felt like a rip off of Musc Ravageur - immediate similarities, but I do prefer the Malle.

      Lustre is not overpowering like I find a lot from Amouage. Ambery, woody, creamy but luxurious, my one criticism is maybe a bit heavier on patchouli than I would prefer. Overall very luxurious and well put together.

      I do love me some patchouli... Outlands, Remain and Sequence are all missing something to me, so I'm keen to try Lustre.

    I've not sampled the original, but I received a pre-release sample of Alexandria's version of Purpose 50 (Alexandria's is called Silent Purpose 50). It blew my mind, honestly. I mentioned it to my daughter when we were talking about things we've recently tried, and she bought it for me on launch day as a birthday gift. All that to say, I'd recommend giving Purpose 50 a try, though the price tag is a bit eye watering.

      I've tried it. First spray: "this might be the best thing I've ever smelt". 2 hours later, I wanted it off my arm. So strong too, off-puttingly so. I see the appeal, but it's stomach-churning to me. I don't enjoy akigalawood at the best of times, and Purpose 50 is loaded with the stuff. Same thing with Decision - nice to begin, but then the Akigalawood starts warming up and it really puts me off.

      That's fair. Even the dupe is incredibly strong; I could smell it on my wrist 24 hours later. It may not be radiating, but it's there. It's definitely a "less is more" type of scent. I'm sure it'll take me years to get through the 60ml she got me (despite me specifically saying I was looking at the 30ml).

      I see Sunshine Man on my trusty decanter's page, but no Bracken Man. Have you tried Sunshine? Sweet, orange lavender thing by the looks of it.

    So far I have tried Reflection man, Reflection 45, Interlude man, Interlude Black Iris, Purpose 50. Like all of them.

      😆😆 Man, I'm so gutted my trusty decanters don't have Memoir Man in stock. The girls at the Amouage stand are going to be seeing a lot more of me... "Your usual, sir?" "Oh yes, let's make it 4 sprays today".

      Same here. Already checked the usual sites I get it from, nothing 😂 also heck why don’t you make a cocktail of multiple Amouages, one for each limb 😂😂😂

    So I own 17 Amouages, of those the ones I think are completely overlooked are Beach Hut Man, Journey Man, Rose Incense, Search and Lineage which are amazing layered together. Enclave seldom gets talked about but is really really good with the spearmint opening and the two Overtures are amazing. Interlude Black Iris may be the sexiest scent i own period and there is just something about Epic Woman 56 that I love. Honor Man is really nice but doesn't perform well off my skin same story with Memoir Man although when I first apply it, still one of my favorite scents

      Cheers for that detailed reply! From the ones you mentioned I'm yet to try Lineage and Epic Woman 56, but did try Epic Woman recently. How different would you say those two are? Beach Hut Man is gorgeous once it hits that bittersweet drydown. Even if the opening couple of hours aren't for me it's one I'd recommend to anyone who loves green fragrances - pretty much cream of the crop. Totally agreed about Enclave and the Overtures, especially the Overtures! Unfortunate about Memoir Man's performance for you. I've only had 2 sprays in a department store and they lasted through 10 hours, 2 showers and a 45 minute swim?, so I think it works quite well with my skin chemistry. It shot right into my top 3 after I tried it a few days ago, but will need to give it a few full wears once decants come back into stock. The only one here that really didn't work for me was Interlude Black Iris! Seems to be a rather love or hate affair, and I'm more on the dislike side.

      I've only smelled Epic Woman in store. I tried both in store and just was immediately drawn to the amped up spices and deepness I got from 56.

    I need this ASAP lol. My favorite is Outlands. I also like Epic man, interlude man and Decision. Reflection man isn't bad either. Purpose 50 is good but weird, still getting used to it. From the women's line I love Love Delight. Smells like a sweet almond drink. I really need to try memoir man, jubilation man, and beach hut man.

      Delight!! Now that one has completely evaded my beady eye. Doubt a sweet almond milk will be for me, but added it to the to-sniff list. Outlands I should probably resniff too - felt way to sweet and gloopy the first time, but deserves a second chance. Jubilation is goated - the only Amouage I've given a 9.5+ to. Memoir could sneak up there though... since making this post, decants have arrived online and I have a 3ml en route for further testing.
