Guerlain, what category do you place them in?

    I’d say designer as far as I’m aware niche means that the brand only produces perfumes whereas they have branched out and done great in other markets.

    The most “correct” answer to me is niche, but that seems like it doesn’t really do the house justice.

    By definition, it is designer since they produce more than perfume. I would call it high end designer or luxury

      Exactly. "Designer" isn't a bad word, it's just a recognition they do more than perfumes.

    They don’t do clothing to my knowledge, so I always make that niche. Looks like I need to change up my definition! I’m trainable.

    I lean towards beauty brand. Just an extra luxurious one that primarily makes exquisite perfume. I associate the word designer with a house that's mainly known for fashion or luxury goods beyond perfume.

    I've always said niche or beauty house. I've always reserved designer for houses that make other non beauty items like clothes, shoes, bags or jewelry.

    To me, brands like Guerlain need their own category- "legacy brands" or something like that. Dior, Chanel, and honestly, even Amouage and Creed belong in this category to me. They are integral to the history of fragrance in a way that "designer" or "niche" simply don't capture.

    I just smelled Guerlain for the first time 2 weeks ago when hubby surprised me with 2 scents and it's very unique and doesn't smell like other things I normally smell around here...so I said niche..but I can see everyone's points for why they picked their answers as well

      My husband brought home full bottles of Peche Mirage and Jasmin Bonheur. Each smells great individually on my skin but smells heavenly together

      But the Peche Mirage ended up making me crave grilled peaches the next morning after falling asleep with my first test spray 😂

    The definition of designer is that they make other things besides fragrance. So I find their fragrance Niche, but the house is a designer. They do beauty, some accessories, and at times clothing. I think they are for promotional events though.
